When XY&Z were commissioned to create a visual identity, brand and print materials for Fèis Obair Pheallaidh, the immediate challenge was to update the materials to appeal to the youth market the event targeted.
In a cultural context that is more often associate with old men and smoke filled country pubs, the Fèis Obair Pheallaidh youth traditional Scottish music project stands out, and Horsecross Arts wanted a visual identity to reflect that
We needed to steer the Perth based team away from stock photography of wisened old players and log fires. This meant creating an bright energetic identity and illustrative style that would leap out at prospective participants.
XY&Z used a colour palette that was entirely foreign to other traditional music materials in the market, sketching out the instruments in an offset rough style. Coupled with clear layouts and accessible print materials, we helped recruit some of Scotland’s finest musical talent.
